Spa break in Gloucestershire - De Vere Tortworth Court

Doesn’t everyone just feel like they need a massive health kick to welcome a new year!? This year we decided to head to De Vere Tortworth Court in Gloucestershire for a romantic spa break before we re-started our routine after the festive break. It was the perfect way to end the over indulgence of Christmas and begin the health journey.

We arrived on the Sunday morning around 11am. Check in is not until 2pm which we were advised upon booking, but we wanted to make the most of all of the facilities. After coffee in the 1853 bar which represents an old New York bookshop with real roaring fires we headed outside for a stroll around the gorgeous grounds. Be sure to bring some wellies in the winter months. We had a spa treatment pre-booked in at The Leaf Spa located inside of the hotel, so we went for some lunch before this.

As we would be eating in the main restaurant in the evening, we chose The Atrium Bistro Bar. We were really impressed with the interior of this place it was so beautiful and on trend with all the plants and Moroccan tiles. The menu was good with lots of options for vegetarian and gluten free. The food was delicious, and we were set for an afternoon of relaxation in the spa area. It was still too early to check in, so we headed into the spa.

The Leaf Spa is a lovely area of the hotel with a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. We would recommend having a treatment as following this you can really zen out in the relaxation room drinking tea. After a swim we went up for our treatment; Blissful Back, Face and Scalp Ritual. This is a 1.5hr treatment using Just Be aromatherapy oils. You begin with telling your therapist how you would like to feel following the treatment and they pick the correct oil for this. I think we slept through most of the treatment where it was so relaxing. I have never done that before which says it all. When we met up in the relaxation room, we were both so chilled we just led in silence sipping our herbal tea. I thought the chocolate representing the oil you chose at the end of the treatment was such a beautiful finishing touch.

After leaving the spa feeling totally relaxed, we checked in and headed to our room. We stayed in a Junior Suite with a garden view. The room was lovely. Inside of the suite we had a double bed, a sitting area, dressing area and a gorgeous bathroom. It was super comfortable, and the interiors spoke country house which we loved. Following a little rest on the bed and a bubble bath we got ready for dinner. We made a reservation before our stay which we recommend doing. The 1853 restaurant is a really beautiful and romantic vintage setting. We had a really delicious 3 course dinner with wine. Again the options for dietary requirements are really good and the servers were very helpful.

Following dinner we headed into the bar next door for a night cap. We just loved the cosy atmosphere in here. There is a fabulous cocktail menu so we went for espresso martinis and enjoyed the last night of the Christmas break before starting back to work in the moring, not that we had really had a Christmas break at all!

We had a really good night’s sleep in our comfortable room and the view in the morning over the misty gardens was so beautiful. We always rate showers in hotels as it is always so disappointing when you don’t get a powerful hot shower. We can safely say the shower ticked all the boxes. We just had time for breakfast before we had to leave so we headed back down to the 1853 restaurant. It was a nice and relaxing atmosphere and we sat near the window to admire more of the garden views. The breakfast service has a menu to order from along with a varied buffet with hot and cold food. It was great to see a gluten free corner with its own toaster. George went for the buffet and I ordered a delicious veggie omelette. We both enjoyed breakfast and good coffee which left us feeling fuelled for the day ahead.

We popped back to the room, finished packing and checked out at reception before making the 40 minute drive back to Bristol. We really enjoyed our spa break at De Vere Tortworth Court and recommend for a romantic escape to the countryside. If you go please try the treatment we had it is to die for. We will be back!
